A rant, two games and some catcher decisions for the Nats

Posted by: Alex Murphy

First off, a little rant: If anyone needs a college thesis paper this year, whether you’re a communication major or a business major or something in between, how about this? This year’s past world series was huge. Everyone watched it. Which was followed by the Super Bowl being the most watched TV event of all time. And now to round it off the most watched Olympics of all time has just ended which included the most watched hockey game of all time. Don’t believe me? You can look it up. This now leaves the question as to why? Is it money? The absolutely harsh winter most of the country, if not all is suffering from? Or something else? You can let me know. That’s your homework assignment.

Now onto Nationals news:

The Nats have two games this Thursday, dividing the team into two and  MLB.com writer has the lineup here.

Notice some names missing?

First off, for whatever reason, Ryan Zimmerman will not be playing and will start this Friday against the Braves.

Also, catcher Jesus Flores is apparently still recovering from his surgery and is not ready to play in any exhibition games, leaving Ivan Rodriguez and Wil Nieves in on Thursday, with the word being the latter more likely the starting catcher.

I have to say because the team is being split in two, I feel like Thursday really shouldn’t count, but at the same time it’s exciting. It’s finally here. Get excited. Sure these are practice games but they’ll give us all a taste of what the Nats will be able to do this year.

The Nationals in Viera

Posted by: Alex Murphy

Opening day is getting closer and closer, and in preparation, the Nats have headed down to Florida to their winter home in Viera.

There’s a lot of new faces on the field and a lot of them will be making debuts in Washington soon enough. For one, it’s looking more like both catcher Jesus Flores and Ivan Rodriguez will be splitting the shift. Also number one pick pitcher Stephen Strasburg will be making his debut against the Tigers on March 9.

It’s a little more than a week until the team splits in half to face both Marlins and Astros as the Grapefruit games get under way on March 4.

Also for any fans of the P-Nats, Hagerstown Suns, Harrisburg Senators or Syracuse Chiefs the brief spring training game line up for the National’s minor league teams is posted.

Nationals’ news is buried under snow

Posted by: Alex Murphy

Not much has happened in the world of the Nats recently and it’s probably because the capital has once again been blasted by a huge blizzard, and the city is in a complete lock down.

Or engaged in a massive snowball fight.

Hudson to not sign with Washington

Posted by: Alex Murphy

After much speculation, Orlando Hudson will not be joining the Nationals. MLB.com said today that he will most likely be going to the Twins.

Now the question remains, will Washington will try to bring in someone else to fill the position? We will have to wait and see.

On a happier note, exactly a month from today on March 4, Spring Training games start as the Nats will face off against both Houston and Florida.

And they’ll be “home” in Viera against the Mets on the 6th.

Here’s the schedule from springtrainingonline.com
